The current 1GBB company
was founded in 1983 at Westborough United Reformed Church. It transferred
to St John's Stoke Church in 1989.
The company was run initially
by Chris Britton, who served as captain until (2001), since then it has
been in the hands of acting captain Ian Wallace.
Over the years 1GBB has been involved in many camps, events and competitions,
and seen many leaders and boys come and go.
Some of the most memorable
moments include:
Soaking wet junior camps in Bentley copse!
Robert Christmas’ special relationship with the fish in headlands
lake.
Winning the battalion
trophy and sports day in 1999, in the companies most successful year:
3 UK Masterteam finals, with 2 3rd places. Well done to: Phil, Kieran,
Dave and Tim (2000) Ben, Dave C, Dave B and Graham.
(2004) Dave, Ben, Jon and Alastair.
(2005) The on going, and perhaps never to be truly finished
attic railway!
Matt Cox and
Rob’s critically acclaimed version of the Offsprings ‘Pretty
fly for a white guy’
Trying to find
a new way of laying out your kit to get the best marks in camp inspection
(playing camp themed music was probably the most innovative!)
Graham Ingate,
a leader who could always be relied upon to make the early morning tea,
or look after the site listening to the cricket
Nick Bayton’s
dramatic goalkeeping skills! (see picture below)
Phil Coleman
mastering the art of unicycle in just one week
Bob Kirby’fossil
trips, Joe-Mcarthy-Hollands climbing trips, Greg baileys complex wide
games and Clive Sim’s pioneering challenges
Alastair Heyes
losing his keys!
Harry, Ryan and
Dave getting to meet the queen
The fantastic
figure marching music!
Many years competing
in the Guildford raft race, sometimes finishing highly, sometimes barely
finishing at all, and once finishing being towed along by a swimming Rob
And finally last of all, never quite being able to beat Alton at most
things…but at least our uniform is better.
